How does Earn work?

You privately supply your coins to an Aave v3 Ethereum Core Market, earning as borrowers pay interest. You can redeem your shares and get your coins back (plus interest) at any time.

What coins and Aave markets are supported?

See the Mainnet table in our supported tokens doc.

What is the level of privacy?

Summary

A Nyx relayer acts as the sender and there is no public link to your private account. No one can see any coins or share tokens you hold in your private account. Not even us.

How to best maintain your privacy

When assets are sent from your connected Ethereum account to your Nyx private account, there is no onchain link between your Ethereum account and your private account. Subsequently, any deposits from your private account into Aave will also have no onchain link to your connected Ethereum account. However, if you transfer 0.1234567 WETH from your Ethereum account into your private account and a Nyx relayer immediately deposits 0.1234567 WETH into an Aave Ethereum vault, external parties may suspect that your Ethereum account is connected to the Aave vault deposit. To obfuscate the link between transferring coins to your private account and making your Aave deposit, you can break your deposit into multiple parts and/or not deposit everything you transferred. After you transfer coins to your private account, you can also wait until other Nyx users have transferred the same coin(s) as you into their private accounts (mainnet transactions here) and/or deposited the same coin(s) into Aave (mainnet transactions here).

Transaction example

There is no sender or token information shown publicly on Aztec (the home of your private account) as you can see with this example transaction:
On Ethereum, a Nyx relayer is shown as the sender to a Nyx smart contract that deposits to Aave. The token type and balance being deposited are shown as well. You can see this in the Ethereum transaction associated with the private Aztec transaction above.

Diagram

Why do I have to claim my vault shares after depositing, and my coins after redeeming?

For the same reason as when you transfer from your Ethereum account to your private account: to keep the receiving address (your private account) a secret. As shown in the image above, you must claim them with the secret claim code only you know.

What if I don’t claim my deposit shares right away?

You start earning interest from your Aave deposit the moment your funds are deposited into Aave. You can claim the vault shares into your private account a short while later, once they are transferred to Aztec.
If you forget to or are unable to claim right away, don’t worry: you’re still earning interest! The reason you need to claim is not to earn interest, but to hold the share tokens in your private account. So, you can claim them the next time you view your Nyx account. In the meantime, since you are the only one who can claim them, as only you know the claim secret, no one else will claim them.
